Bar Association President Prashant Kumar Elected To ILAC Board

The International Legal Assistance Consortium has elected Advocate Prashant Kumar to its board of directors. Kumar, also president of the Bar Association of India, is the second Asian to serve on ILAC’s board.

Established in 2002, ILAC, as per information on its website, emerged from a recognition that more effective and better coordinated international legal services were needed to help re-establish the rule of law in war-torn countries.

Based in Sweden, the international, non-governmental organisation now has more than 80 members, including several national bar associations — such as the American Bar Association and Bar of Association of India, lawyer unions as well bodies such as the International Association of Women Judges and World Justice Project.

Over the past 18 years, ILAC has carried out rule of law assessment missions and initiated legal reform programmes in 16 countries, according to its annual report for 2020. More recently it has run programmes in Syria and other parts of Middle East and North Africa as well as Latin America and the Caribbean.

Prashant Kumar has litigated commercial, civil and constitutional matters pertaining to intellectual property, information technology law, infrastructure and trade.
