Blake Lively’s Red Corset Mini Dress Was the Perfect Gilded Glamour Met Gala After Party Look

Met Gala co-chair Blake Lively continued her adherence to the evening’s Gilded Glamour theme long after the ball ended, stepping out in a red and black beaded corset mini dress. Blake styled her hair up with the look to give it very Becky Sharp, Vanity Fair vibes.

Blake was one of the best dressed at the Met Gala, wearing a Versace gown that featuring a color change reveal. It also perfectly matched the Met Gala carpet, as Blake has done year after year.

Blake spoke to The Cut on the red carpet about the inspiration behind her look. “Instead of looking to fashion to influence the dress, I looked to New York City architecture and the classic buildings,” Blake explained. “So this is the constellation from Grand Central Station,” she said, pointing to her train. “This is the Empire State building,” she indicated her bodice. “The draping, Statue of Liberty, plus the crown, which has seven tiers, the Statue of Liberty has seven rays representing the sun’s rays and also the seven continents, which represents welcomeness, inclusivity, and freedom. I sound like a Wikipedia page. And then it also has 25 windows so Lorraine [Schwartz] put 25 stones on the bottom.”

Blake is her own stylist and has been for years. She spoke in March 2018 about why she continues to style herself. “I just like it,” she told WWD at the time. ”I love design and I love fashion and it’s a way to be creative. In my job I get to be creative, but it’s over a period of time and so many other people are involved, whereas this is a beginning, middle and end, and I get to be creative and there’s an end date in the near future. It’s the same reason why I like doing my friends’ hair and makeup or cooking—you get to be creative and finish it. Whereas with my job you do it and then two years later it’s finished. It probably goes back to the control issues; it’s like, ‘Okay, I did it, I completed it, it’s done!’”
