Britney Spears’ conservator alleges dad Jamie spent ‘$2m of daughter’s money’

Britney Spears’ conservator has accused her father Jamie Spears of spending ‘more than $2million (£1.5m) of his daughter’s money’ to remain conservator of her estate.

Jamie, 68, has been in charge of his daughter’s finances since the conservatorship began back in 2008, while Jodi Montgomery took over as conservator of Britney’s person in 2019 when Jamie stood down due to ill health.

Britney, 39, recently had her request to have her father removed as conservator denied by a judge, and now Ms Montgomery has accused Jamie of ‘finger-pointing’ after he claimed she was to blame for Britney’s alleged treatment under the conservatorship.

In documents filed in Los Angeles court on Friday by Montgomery’s lawyer, Lauriann Wright, the conservator hits out at Britney’s father for attempting to blame Montgomery for the singer’s alleged treatment under her conservatorship.

She claims: ‘It is ironic that Mr. Spears now wants the conservatorship to “reflect her wishes,” since it is no secret that Ms. Spears has wished her father out of her life for years.’

Through her lawyer, Montgomery also alleges that Jamie has used ‘more than $2 million of his daughter’s money’ to defend himself in an attempt to remain conservator of her estate.

In the filing, Montgomery claims that it is impossible for Jamie to be ignorant of his daughter’s life over the past 21 months – since she took over as conservator of Britney’s person – since ‘everything costs money.’

She said: ‘No expenditures can happen without going through Mr. Spears. Not every requested expenditure has been approved, leading to some of the concerns raised by Ms. Spears on June 23, 2021.’

Montgomery claims that she and Jamie ‘should be working as a team to ensure that Ms. Spears’ best interests are being met, that she is on a path to recovery and termination of her conservatorship, and that she is living her best life possible’, but alleges: ‘Instead, Mr. Spears has decided it is time to start the finger-pointing and media attacks.’

Following Britney’s bombshell testimony in court last month, in which she alleged that she is unable to remove her IUD under her conservatorship and was forced to tour, Jamie denied he was responsible for his daughter’s ‘difficulties and suffering’.

A filing stated: ‘Mr Spears is simply not involved in any decisions related to Ms Spears’ personal care or medical or reproductive issues.

‘It is unclear whether it is appropriate for Ms Montgomery to serve in that role or for that matter, whether the continued conservatorship of Ms Spears’ person is appropriate.’

Jamie is ‘concerned about the management and care of his daughter’, according to the filing, and suggested it was Britney ’s court-appointed lawyer Samuel Ingham who wanted Montgomery to have control over her personal affairs.

Ingham is reportedly set to resign, while Montgomery is staying on as conservator, reportedly at Britney’s request, despite the popstar saying in court that her care manager was going ‘too far’.

Britney told a judge in court that she wanted her conservatorship to end ‘without evaluation’, but she has yet to file an official request.

Another hearing is scheduled for July 14.
