Katy Hill has said she’s ‘incredibly lucky’ to have survived a freak accident at her home 18 months ago.

The former Blue Peter presenter smashed her face against the toilet as she was playing with her daughter Kaya, 14, and has been left with a permanent scar as a result.

She received internal and external stitches on her forehead in hospital after the horrific accident at her home in Oxfordshire.

Speaking to Hello! Magazine, Katy said that she discovered the part of the skull near one’s eyebrow is ‘really thin’, and the incident could have proved a lot more fatal.

The 50-year-old recalled: ‘I was messing about and racing my daughter to the toilet when my sheepskin boot caught the top stop and I flew across the floor and face-planted the toilet lid. It was horrendous, the doctors were stitching me up for an hour.

‘Apparently, the skull is really thin just above the eyebrow and to the side and they were telling me how people have been killed just by someone throwing a magazine at them, so I feel incredibly lucky.

‘I realised how life can change in a split second.’

Following her injury, Katy was motivated to change careers, and is now working as a personal development coach.

And she feels her life has ‘come full circle’ ever since.

She continued: ‘On Blue Peter, I encouraged others to play big and face their fears and that’s what I do now.

‘I used to get so many letters from girls and now a lot of those same girls come to me for coaching and they feel like they’ve come on the journey with me. It’s so lovely to be able to empower and encourage them as women.’

Katy also said that she ‘can’t wait for the next chapter’ after she celebrated her 50th birthday in April, and she reckons that ‘you have a confidence that only comes at this age’.

The former TV personality recently opened up to The Sun about her injury..

She said: ‘It was a bad one and I was very grateful that the impact went down the centre of my forehead.

‘As I found out from the doctors, if it had been slightly to either side, I might not be here now because the skull is thin in those parts.

‘The irony isn’t lost on me that I used to jump out of planes and all sorts, and yet I injure myself in this way.’

The full interview is in Hello!, out now.
