Bretman Rock has paid tribute to Aaliyah in a special way – by wearing the same dress she wore to the MTV VMAs in 2000 to this year’s event.

The singer, who died at the age of 22 in 2001, stunned in a yellow and black striped Roberto Cavalli number, with Bretman wearing the same one 21 years later.

Posing on the red carpet, the social media star paired the look with thigh-high boots and shared a sweet tribute on Instagram.

‘No one will ever rock it like Aaliyah 🐯 ,’ he said. ‘Thank you so much @roberto_cavalli for letting me wear this special piece.

‘I never thought I would ever be able to wear this, let alone be in the VMAs, when they said I could wear it I literally cried of disbelief… I love Aaliyah and am so honored to have been able to wear this 21 years after her. We love you.’

Speaking to reporters on the red carpet, the 23-year-old confirmed it was the exact dress Aaliyah wore, which had been taken out of the Cavalli archives.

In 2000, Aaliyah was nominated for three MTV VMA Awards, winning two of them – best female video and best video from a film.
