Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty has been sentenced to a year of house arrest after he plead guilty to failing to register as a sex offender.

Petty had been facing up to 10 years behind bars with supervised release, but will now sit out his sentence at the couple’s multi-million dollar mansion in Calabasas instead.

He was also ordered to pay a fine of $55,000 (£46,000) and will have three years of probation, according to the US Attorney’s Office via CBS Los Angeles.

Petty, who married Minaj in 2019, had been convicted of first-degree attempted rape of a 16-year-old in New York in 1995 and served four years in prison.

However, when he and Minaj moved to California in 2019, he failed to register as a sex offender within the required period of five days.

He pleaded guilty back in September on a federal count of failing to register as a sex offender and prosecutors had previously urged the judge to sentence Petty to further prison time.

They had recommended 15 months in prison and five years of supervised release, claiming that being under house arrest in the mansion he shares with Minaj in a gated community was not enough of a punishment.

Petty faced further legal trouble in August after his alleged rape victim, Jennifer Hough, filed a lawsuit against him and Minaj.

Hough claimed that both Minaj and Petty caused her emotional distress and tried to coerce her into recanting her accusation of rape, allegedly offering her $500,000 (£418,000) to do so.

She later voluntarily dropped the case against Minaj but her lawyer, Tyrone Blackburn, said the case against Petty was ongoing.

Minaj and Petty have yet to comment publicly on the latest sentencing.
