Olly Murs has been praised by a mum whose teenage daughter had an epileptic seizure at one of his shows, with the singer pausing the gig to ensure her safety and coming over to make sure she was okay.

Youngster Abbie, 14, started to feel unwell at Olly’s show at Colchester Castle Park, with her mum Mel explaining to Metro.co.uk that some medics came to help before the Dance With Me Tonight hitmaker noticed that something was wrong.

Epilepsy is a common condition that affects the brain and causes frequent seizures. Seizures are bursts of electrical activity in the brain that temporarily affect how it works. They can cause a wide range of symptoms.

Mel said: ‘Olly finished the song he was singing and then said something asking if she was okay and if he was okay to carry on to which he got a thumbs up from the paramedic.

‘They got her a chair and moved her towards the stage through the barrier. At this point Olly came down off the stage, came over to my daughter and asked her if she was okay, told her not to cry, asked her if she had had a nice time, and thanked her for coming.

‘He then told her he hopes she feels better soon, all the time holding her hands.

‘We then made our way to the first aid tent but Olly said to the crowd that he would hold on a sec until my daughter was out. He actually paused an entire show to make sure she was okay which meant the world and shows what a kind genuine man he is.

‘He made what was a scary, upsetting time so much nicer. She was in total shock bless her…Olly was amazing but the real hero here is my little girl who has been through hell this last year since her diagnosis. Olly is a hero too though.’

Mel added: ‘It would be amazing if she could meet Olly again to say thank you properly.’

Following the show, Mel also tweeted Olly to say thank you, with the popstar responding: ‘Oh god I hope she is ok!! Do send her my love x’.

Olly is currently on tour, but has not had the smoothest time after undergoing surgery on his knee.

The 37-year-old revealed he had been hospitalised with his injury earlier in August and filmed an update for fans from his hospital bed.

He said: ‘Hey everone what’s happening? [You’re] probably thinking, “What is going on, why is Olly in a hospital bed?” Well I’ve just had surgery on my left leg.

‘As you can see I got my Game Ready on already to ice it. Basically, for some of you that came to the Newmarket gig on Friday, thank you firstly for all your kind messages and support and just checking I was okay.

‘It’s been a mad 72 hours since the gig, getting to this point. Basically after my second song a fragment of bone that was in my knee, after I jumped, managed to lodge itself on the back of my knee which basically shut my leg down, and during the gig I was just limping the whole time. Couldn’t believe it.

‘Basically I’m in, I’ve had the surgery, I wanted to get this done because of the Newbury gig on the 14th and the Singleton Park on the 15th. So I wanted to make sure I get this done for you guys.’

Despite his injury, he seems to have bounced back in a big way for his shows.
