Pete Davidson has relived the ’embarrassing’ experience of getting his tattoos ‘burned off’ as he opens up about his movie roles.

The actor and Saturday Night Live regular has more than 100 tattoos, and is in the process of getting many of them removed, an experience he described as ‘really embarrassing’.

He admitted that he never thought he would be cast in movies, and having his collection of tattoos is proving to be a bit of a burden on set, as it takes about three hours to cover them all up.

As for the process of getting them removed?

‘Burning them off is worse than getting them,’ the 27-year-old said on Late Night with Seth Meyers. ‘Because not only are they, like, burning off your skin, but you’re wearing these big goggles, right? So you can’t see anything and the doctor’s in there with you.

‘Before [the doctor] goes to laser each tattoo, you have to hear him announce what the tattoo is to make sure if you want to keep it or not,’ Pete continued.

‘I’ll just be sitting there all high off of the Pro-Nox — which I actually quite enjoy, which is actually pretty fun — and then all of a sudden I’ll just hear, “Are we keeping the Stewie Griffin smoking a blunt?” And then I have to sit there and be like, “No, Dr G.”‘

Pete has landed a string of high-profile roles recently, including in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, and his semi-autobiographical film The King of Staten Island.

The comic is also set to star as Joey Ramone in an upcoming biopic made by Netflix.

Netflix have revealed the upcoming biopic is being made with the support of the late star’s estate and will be directed by Jason Orley, who previously worked with Pete on 2019’s Big Time Adolescence.

It will follow the lead singer of The Ramones, who died aged 49 in 2001 following a battle with lymphoma and was announced on the 20th anniversary of his death.

Adam Fogelson, chairman of STXfilms Motion Picture Group, said of the movie: ‘I Slept With Joey Ramone is a great rock anthem that will make an equally great rock biopic, set apart by a universal story of family.

‘Pete is perfect for this role and we’re excited he and Jason will be bringing this icon of rock to life and thrilled to be collaborating once again with our friends at Netflix.’
